The Cambridge Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (DELTA) is a globally recognised, advanced qualification for experienced English language teachers who want to deepen their theoretical knowledge and develop their professional practice.

The DELTA is awarded by Cambridge Assessment English, part of Cambridge University, and is designed for teachers who already have substantial classroom experience. It is suitable for teachers in a variety of contexts, including English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Specific Purposes (ESP), or general English teaching.

The DELTA consists of three modules, which can be taken separately or as an integrated programme:

  • Module One is an exam which focuses on understanding language, methodology, and resources for teaching.
  • Module Two involves developing professional practice through researching various areas of language and observed teaching.
  • Module Three explores specialisms in ELT and consists in designing a 20-hour course for a group of learners or an individual learner.

At NILE, we recommend starting from Module 1, and we cannot accept candidates for Module 2 unless you have taken Module 1 already.

The NILE DELTA courses are offered in an online format, providing flexibility for working professionals. Throughout the course, you engage in rigorous study, practical teaching assignments, and receive expert guidance from experienced tutors.

All NILE's DELTA candidates have access to a range of ELT ebooks from Cambridge University Press and Assessment and Macmillan Education through the NILE eLibrary, at no extra cost.

Completion of the DELTA is widely regarded as a gateway to career advancement, opening opportunities in academic management, teacher training, and curriculum development.
