NILE and the University of Chichester are proud to announce a full scholarship on the NILE MA in Professional Development for Language Education (MAPDLE), validated by the University of Chichester, is awarded in 2022 to Mona Hassanein.

As in previous years, a very high standard of applications for the scholarship was received. What impressed the award committee about Mona’s application was her passion and her clear commitment to training teachers in Egypt. In her current role Mona works with British Council teachers, as well as pre-primary, primary and secondary school teachers working in public and private education sectors.

On receiving news of her successful application, Mona wrote that ‘it would be a great honor to follow in the footsteps of Erica Dirou’. Mona also sees the NILE MA as a ‘great opportunity which would not only help me enhance my knowledge and skills, but also enable me to better support teachers and peers in my context’.

I’m greatly delighted to have been selected as this year’s recipient of the MAPDLE scholarship programme. This is going to be a great step towards achieving my personal and professional goals and would definitely take my teacher training career to a whole new level. Above all, it would be a great honor to follow in the footsteps of Erica Dirou, who was my mentor and friend, and will always be my role model and inspiration.

I’d like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to NILE and the University of Chichester for giving me this great opportunity which would not only help me enhance my knowledge and skills, but also enable me to better support teachers and peers in my context.

The scholarship is awarded each calendar year to an English Language Teacher or Teacher Trainer working in Egypt, in memory of our outstanding alumna Erica Dirou (pictured above, private photo).
