Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is the practice of teaching subjects such as science, mathematics or history in English to learners whose first language is not English. Further InformationNILE Online courses are highly interactive and learning takes place through varied and engaging multimedia content and the collaboration between participants from different contexts. All participants work on the same unit in the same week but there is a high level of flexibility within that time period to help you fit studying around your life and work. The interaction via forums and the other powerful digital tools built into the platform help and encourage you to share ideas, ask questions, explore concepts and build up a community. You need a computer, a headset (with microphone) and an Internet connection. Much of the course can be done on a mobile device, but a computer is needed for certain activities and tasks. All participants have access to NILE's extensive ELT e-library and an innovative social and cultural programme. Meet a Course Tutor: Phil Ball
Phil is based in San Sebastián in Spain. He is a CLIL materials writer and teacher-trainer and has been closely involved with the award-winning Basque project, ‘Eleanitz’. He has been involved in several European-based CLIL projects, and has written a wide variety of CLIL-based textbooks for the Basque and Spanish social science and English language programmes. He co-designed the new ‘CLIL Essentials’ online course for the British Council and is the co-author of the new book about CLIL, ‘Putting CLIL into Practice’ (OUP 2015) and his CLIL textbook series for the Basque curriculum was nominated for the ELTONS. Innovation Award in 2016. |
