James Taylor

James is a materials writer, teacher trainer and Community Manager for Active Education. He’s been nominated for an ELTON Award three times, winning for Our Languages (FTD Educaçao), which was awarded for Excellence in Course Innovation. He co-founded the Raise Up! project, encouraging diversity in ELT materials.He has taken part in several educational materials development projects and written ELT readers. Chris holds a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing and specialises in teaching literature, creative writing, and cultural studies. He has worked with NILE for fifteen years, and also taught at a number of universities in the UK.

He holds a DELTA and CELTA and has worked in Brazil, South Korea, Belgium, Costa Rica, the UK and the USA. His main areas of interest are materials writing and teacher development. He is a passionate advocate for teachers’ associations and has volunteered for several over the course of his career. He was a founder and the inaugural President of BELTA in Belgium, and is currently the leader of BRAZ-TESOL Materials Writing SIG in Brazil, and coordinator of IATEFL Teacher Development SIG.

In his free time, James enjoys going to see live music, browsing second-hand record shops, watching Star Trek, and birdwatching.
