For a number of years, NILE has worked closely with Trinity College London - first supporting them in developing and piloting Trinity ‘s Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT), and, since 2020, offering this NQF Level 6 qualification as an additional option for many of our NILE courses. This autumn we celebrated with our latest successful CertPT graduate. Rachel Head, who had the distinction of being the 100th recipient of the CertPT after completing a NILE course, joined her NILE Online course in April this year, and passed both the NILE course and her CertPT assignments with flying colours. Through completing her CertPT, Rachel extended her research to include evaluating published materials, adapting resources to her specific professional context, developing her own materials and reflecting on the resources used. NILE strongly believes in the process of reflection and supporting participants in applying the principles of NILE courses to their own professional practice, and as Rachel points out, Trinity’s CertPT qualification allows you to delve deeper into this, thus aligning with NILE’s vision on teacher development. Between September 2022 and September 2023, NILE and Trinity collaborated to undertake research to explore the impact of the CertPT on teachers’ professional practice. The study used a combination of recent research findings, Trinity CertPT assessment submissions and semi- structured interviews with NILE course participants and teacher educators, using qualitative text analysis to review the participant data, and the results of this research are available to download now.
