Mary CarneyNILE Consultant Trainer

Mary Carney is a freelance educational management consultant and trainer based in the British Isles. She has worked for over 35 years in Europe, China, South & East Asia, New Zealand, Sth America, MENA, Ukraine and the UK in teaching, corporate training, teacher training and training course assessment and moderation. For most of her career, she has held positions in academic management. She was also a Cambridge CELTYL course director and Cambridge external assessor for 15 years and tutored on Sunderland University's PGCE, the Cambridge DELTA & CELTA, Trinity Diploma, Trinity TYLEC, and the IH London Diploma in ELT Management.
Mary has been involved in large-scale education reform projects in Hong Kong and Burma and has had 2 teaching manuals published for Hong Kong primary and secondary schools. She co-authored and co-delivered a country-wide mentoring scheme for NILE and British Council Kiev, supporting school principals and mainstream secondary teachers across Ukraine. More recently, she worked on a NILE mentoring project for British Council Beijing, co-designing and co-delivering team leader mentoring training for a programme rolled-out across Tangshan province in China, aimed at school principals, educational researchers and Chinese teachers of English.
Aside from working on standalone courses and projects, Mary mainly works as a remote MA dissertation supervisor and tutor on NILE's MA in Professional Development for Language Education, delivered in partnership with, and validated by, the University of Chichester. She currently tutors on 3 of its modules, is an MA grades moderator and, in addition, works on quality assurance of the Trinity CertTESOL qualification as a panel member & external moderator. Her qualifications include a BA, MA TEYL (University of York), Diploma in TEFLA (Cambridge), Diploma in ELT Management (IH London/Aston University), Diploma in Visual Education, Diploma in SEN and Certificate in TEAP.
