NILE and the University of Chichester are proud to announce that a full scholarship for the NILE MA in Professional Development for Language Education (MAPDLE), validated by the University of Chichester, is awarded in 2020 to Mohamed Ali Elsayed Khalaf.

Mohamed is the first person to receive this scholarship, which is awarded each calendar year to an English Language Teacher or Teacher Trainer working in Egypt in memory of our outstanding alumna Erica Dirou.

With a very high number and standard of applications for the scholarship, the award committee was particularly impressed by Mohamed’s passion for teaching and training teachers in English Language Teaching.

In his application Mohamed described how the MAPDLE programme will support his professional development as a CELTA trainer based at the Future University in New Cairo. Mohamed also explained how completing the MAPDLE will help him to have a positive impact on wider communities of teaching practice in Egypt.

Mohamed says

"Work hard for your beautiful dreams, because only believing in them is never enough.  I'm inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt when I say this - and by Erica, because she spread the good when she was with us and she is still spreading it even after her shocking departure. "
