Last Friday we said farewell to 24 primary school teachers from Hubei province in China after a three-week course designed to develop their English teaching methodology and personal language proficiency. The group settled quickly into Norwich life, and enjoyed their immersion into the local culture with host families and a series of educational and cultural visits. The teachers also conducted ethnographic research to develop their intercultural awareness, and visited local primary schools to observe lessons and talk to teachers and headteachers. Social activities included trips to Cambridge, London and the Queen's estate at Sandringham, as well as a Ghost Walk through Norwich and tours of historical buildings in the city.
The teachers' feedback was enthusiastic including comments such as:
"The city is beautiful and you provided a variety of teaching and activities for us."
"It has helped us to develop our English teaching - their lessons are wonderful."
"I improved my speaking and listening skills and I know so many new things."
"I felt my trainers were excellent."
We all wish the teachers well in their schools in China and hope their experiences with us in Norwich will help them develop their teaching practice and confidence.
