NILE is the Norwich Institute for Language Education. NILE was established in 1995 by directors with extensive experience of ELT worldwide. It has an Advisory Board which is made up of ELT professionals with international reputations.

NILE is based in Norwich, the capital of East Anglia. 160 kms NE of London, Norwich is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in England. Set in magnificent countryside, it has a university, two cathedrals, a castle, art galleries, museums, cinemas and theatres. A city of tradition, it is also a thriving modern commercial centre with its own international airport and good rail and bus links with London. NILE has course centres both in the heart of the city and on the university campus.

NILE was set up as a specialist teacher development institute, to provide courses of the highest quality for teachers from all over the world. The number and range of these courses continues to grow, but since 2000 we have extended our range of work to cover the following main areas:

• CELTA - Cambridge ESOL Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults
• Modular MA courses for ELT professionals (in collaboration with Leeds Metropolitan University)
• BEC exam preparation courses by arrangement

• Short courses, seminars and workshops worldwide
• One-to-one and executive language training

NILE has already grown to become the biggest single provider of professional development courses for EL teachers and trainers in Europe. We were the first institute to be accredited by the British Council for the provision of teachers’ courses, and all these courses qualify for Comenius funding. We are members of EnglishUK and an official examination centre for Cambridge exams. We are also one of the very few

independent UK organisations accredited to run courses offering qualifications up to Masters level. We also run BEC exam preparation courses by special arrangement. Our Cambridge exam results have been well above average for the last 8 years.

Between 1995 and 2007 we have run hundreds of courses for thousands of participants from over 60 different countries. These courses have been both of the scheduled open-enrolment type, and the closed-group, tailor-made variety, specially designed for education ministries and companies. We intend to continue the NILE success story by offering new programmes both to meet and to stimulate new demand.
