The following information is intended to help you with your travel to Norwich. If you would like any additional advice please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help.

There are flights 4 times a day from Amsterdam (Schiphol airport) to Norwich airport should you wish to try to fly straight to Norwich. Transfers from London Airports are given below.

From Stansted airport

Stansted is the closest of the London airports to Norwich. If you fly into Stansted Airport you can travel to Norwich by train, bus or taxi.

Bus

The easiest way to get straight to Norwich is by bus. There is a regular Jetlink bus service direct from Stansted Airport to Norwich. Tickets for the Jetlink buses can be bought on the bus. Alternatively, you can book your ticket on the internet. The web address is: www.nationalexpress.com. You can also get an up-to-date bus timetable from this website. If you are staying in residential accommodation at the University of East Anglia, the bus stops at the University campus. If you are staying in homestay accommodation, you should stay on the bus until it reaches the bus station. From there you can take a taxi to your accommodation.

Train

The train from Stansted to Norwich is not direct and you will have to change trains at Cambridge. These websites are useful for train information: www.thetrainline.com (you can also buy tickets on this site) or www.railtrack.co.uk.

Taxi

If you wish to travel from Stansted to Norwich by taxi, please contact us and we will find out the price for you. Please note, however, the price for the taxi will be in excess of £100.00.

From Heathrow or Gatwick airports

Both of these airports are situated on the outskirts on London. You can either travel directly to Norwich, or go into central London and back out again. Please note that the most convenient way to travel is directly to Norwich via bus, especially if you have a lot of luggage to carry.

Direct travel to Norwich:

Bus:The easiest and cheapest way to get straight to Norwich is by the airport bus. There is a regular Jetlink bus service direct from Gatwick and Heathrow Airports to Norwich. Tickets for the Jetlink buses can be bought on the bus, or alternatively you can book your ticket on the internet. The web address is www.nationalexpress.com. You can also get an up-to-date bus timetable from this website. If you are staying in residential accommodation at the University of East Anglia, the bus stops at the University campus. If you are staying in homestay accommodation, you should stay on the bus until it reaches the bus station. From there you can take a taxi to your accommodation.

Travel to Norwich via London:

1) From the airport into central London…
To travel into London from Heathrow Airport you can either catch a train on the London Underground (Tube) network, or there is an express rail link to Paddington Station in central London. From Gatwick Airport you can catch a train to Victoria Station. You can travel into London by taxi but this is very expensive.

2) From central London to Norwich…
Bus: National Express buses to Norwich depart from Victoria Coach Station in central London, which is near Victoria train station. (Please note that with a heavy suitcase it is a little too far to walk from the train station to the coach station, but there are taxis at the train station.) Up-to-date bus timetables and prices can be found on the website www.nationalexpress.com.

If you decide to travel to Norwich by National Express bus you are strongly advised to book a ticket in advance as the buses are often fully booked, particularly at weekends. You should do this through your travel agent or through the website www.nationalexpress.com.

When you arrive in Norwich at the bus station you can get a taxi to your host family’s house or to the University of East Anglia (if you are staying in residential accommodation).

Train

Trains to Norwich all depart from Liverpool Street Station and the average length of the journey from London to Norwich is 1 hour 50 minutes. The timetable varies throughout the year but an up-to-date timetable can be found on the website www.oneanglia.com and you can book your tickets at www.thetrainline.com. When you arrive in Norwich you can get a taxi from the railway station to your host family’s house or to the University of East Anglia (if you are staying in residential accommodation).

Taxi

If you wish, we can arrange for a Norwich-based taxi to meet you at Heathrow or Gatwick airport and bring you to Norwich. It is much cheaper to use a Norwich-based taxi company than a London-based taxi company, however the fare will nevertheless be in excess of £120.

From Luton airport

If you fly into Luton Airport you can travel to Norwich by train, bus or taxi. The options are:

Bus

To get to Norwich by bus you have to change at Tasted Airport. There is a regular Jetlink bus service from Luton Airport to Norwich via Tasted Tickets for the Jetlink buses can be bought on the bus. Alternatively, you can book your ticket on the internet. The web address is www.nationalexpress.com. You can also get an up-to-date bus timetable from this website.

Train

To travel from Luton to Norwich you would have to take a train from Luton to London King’s Cross Station. You would then need to take the London Underground or a taxi to Liverpool Street Station in London, where you would take the train to Norwich. In Norwich

Bus Passes

While you are living in Norwich you may wish to buy a bus pass, which entitles you to travel on any bus, at any time, within the boundaries of Norwich. Bus passes cannot be bought in advance but you can buy a weekly bus pass the first time you get on a bus. These currently cost £13.50 for one week.
