NILE to deliver all modules of the MA in Professional Development for Language Education (MAPDLE) leading to the MA awarded by Leeds Metropolitan University

In January 2007 NILE was accredited for a further 5 years to run postgraduate programmes up to MA level and the courses run by NILE leading to the MAPDLE were validated for the same further period. It has now been agreed that NILE will take over the delivery of the whole MAPDLE programme, so from January 2007 all the modules will be run at NILE in Norwich.

The MAPDLE is a modular MA designed specifically for experienced English teachers and trainers to enable them to complete a period of professional development of advanced standing while continuing to follow their chosen career paths. It is designed for flexibly delivery, combining short, intensive periods of face-to-face teaching with longer periods of closely supervised e.learning. Teachers on the MAPDLE can do the full MA in as little as a year or over a period as long as 5 years. They can also take the interim awards of Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma.

NILE has been running this MA and its predecessor for over 12 years now. It has been followed by over 400 teachers and trainers from all round the world, many of whom have gone on to do further qualifications and take on senior positions. Some of them have successfully completed PhDs and 6 of our past MA students have become NILE trainers.

ERF Award for NILE Consultant Antoinette Moses

NILE is proud to report that NILE consultant, Antoinette Moses, has been announced the winner of the Extensive Reading Foundation’s 4th Annual LanguageLearner Literature Award in the category of Adolescent and Adults (Beginners). The prize is for her 2006 book Let Me Out, illustrated by Chris Pavely and published by Cambridge University Press, as part of its Cambridge English Readers Series. The international jury commented: “it’s so funny and the pictures are wonderful” (Vietnam), whilst voters from Hong Kong found Let Me Out “really fantastic and interesting”. The panel praised Moses’ ability to create a connection between reader and character; Let Me Out was a popular choice in a competitive category.

The Extensive Reading Foundation (ERF) is an unaffiliated, not-for profit organization that supports and promotes extensive reading in language education. Voters chose the winning book in four categories, taking into account Internet votes and comments from teachers and students from around the world. This is Antoinette’s second Language Learner Literature Award, after winning in 2004 for Jojo’s Story.
