The NILE
Newsletter: Number 2
|
|
Well, we made
it to the second issue! Thank you to all of you who sent good wishes after the
first one.
Comenius Funding Deadlines
NILE's teachers'
courses are eligible for Comenius funding.
In many countries
the deadlines for applying for Comenius funding are at the end of February.
Check with your national agency today. Have a look here for help from NILE

The picture above is of a Vietnamese teacher of English
who won one of our courses in a British Council competition recently. We will,
no doubt, be meeting her in the summer. |

Special Offers
With the NILE
newsletter, you don't just get news and lots of useful links. You also get
special offers. This time we have 2!
ELTJ
Our colleagues at
Niche Publications are offering NILE newsletter readers their CD ROM with all
the articles in the English Language Teaching Journal from 1981-2004 at a very
special price. This normally costs £30.00, but if you click here, you can see how much
cheaper you can get it.
Scholarship Support for NILE Courses
Because we
recognise that teachers from some EU countries have difficulty meeting the
difference between the Comenius grant and our full fees, we have decided to
offer scholarship support. Click here to find out more.
Discount
We are also
offering a 10% discount (on the second course) for anyone booking more than one
course, AND a 10% discount to returning course participants. (This
does not apply to Masters Courses).

Featured Courses
You can get more details by clicking on the links.
We now have full details of
our newest course: "Finding Your Voice". This is an exciting mixture of both
creative writing and storytelling which we are running for the first time this
summer. The teachers include Antoinette Moses, Jane Spiro and Nick
Owen.

In this
issue, as well, we'd like to feature our CLIL courses. We are one of the few institutions in the UK
running courses which deal with teaching English across the curriculum. To find out more have a look here and check some of the links at the bottom of the page.
And we are very lucky to have a strong team working on the courses, including
Keith Kelly (below) and John Clegg, and Kay Bentley. Kay is also closely involved in
the Young Learners SIG of IATEFL.
The EL Gazette had a full
page feature on the Teaching Knowledge Test recently and you can see that here. Details of our course are here.
The
dates and the details of all the 2006 courses are here

Colleague
Profile
Our featured colleague this issue is Keith Kelly. Keith is a
NILE Associate Trainer and he has been working with us for about 4 years now.
He specialises in CLIL and a quick Google search will give you some idea of how prominent in the
field he is.
Keith's answers to the Desert Island Questions answers are
here.
And we are not the
only ones playing the Desert Island Discs game. There's a whole webring devoted to
it here.

Comenius Funding
NILE's courses
continue to be eligible for Comenius funding. We have updated the information
about funding on our website here. You can get the latest information from your local
agency here. Or if you need help with the bureaucracy and form filling you can
contact us here
|
Conferences
The proceedings will be
published soon and we are hoping to use a "state of the art" internet publishing
system, which will allow us a lot of flexibility in printing and selling. It's
here.
But if you want
to see which conferences we are going to be at, take a look here.

Captain Techno
An occasional look at bits
of the technology that perhaps are less obvious, or some links that we think
might help you. Have a look here. Or if you have a link you
think might interest people, contact us here.

Norwich News
As usual, with the January courses, we took the participants to see the
pantomime (Oh, yes we did!) at the Theatre
Royal. The pantomime was "Peter Pan" (He's behind you!), but, again as usual,
the
plot remains the
same every year. If you think pantomime is silent, then you could not be more
wrong. It's aimed at kids and parents and, if you are in the UK in January,
then you have to experience it.
If you want to keep up to date with all the Norwich
news, then you can consult the local paper here.
And there are more flights to more destinations
than ever from Norwich International Airport. It's better and often cheaper
than the London airports.

See
you soon!
Best
wishes,
The NILE
