The NILE
Newsletter: Number 1
|
|
Welcome to the first issue of the
NILE email newsletter.
We aim to use this on a regular
basis to keep you up to date with everything that is happening here at NILE. We
hope that you will find it useful and that it will encourage you to keep in

Featured Courses
You can get more details by clicking on the links.
We'd like to
draw your attention to some of our newer courses. There is the Teaching
Knowledge
course. This leads to the new exam developed by Cambridge
ESOL. The
course has been developed by Alan Pulverness (see below) and Mel Williams, among
others, and they were also involved in the development of the
exam. The book they wrote for
the course is here.
|
Then
there is Computers, Corpora and
Concordancing. A course which will allow teachers to take full advantage of text
analysis tools for teaching in the most up to date way. If you are not sure
about what concordancing is, have a look here. James Thomas will be
running the course.
And we are very excited about "Finding Your Voice".
This is a new course involving both creative writing and story telling. More
details soon.
The dates and the details of all the 2006 courses are

Profile
Here we intend to let you know a little more about some of our
consultants. We have sent them each a set of "desert island" questions. If you
want to know what "desert island" questions are then have a look at this site
about "Desert Island
Discs", a
long running BBC programme. (note that this
is not the same link as the one on the NILE page)
Alan Pulverness's answers are here. |

Comenius Funding
NILE's courses
continue to be eligible for Comenius funding. You can get the latest information
from your local agency here. Or if you need help with
the bureaucracy and form filling you can contact us here
|
Conferences
We held our own conference in
September to celebrate 10 years of NILE. The proceedings of that will be
published soon.
But if you want to see which conferences we are going to
be at, take a look here. |

Captain Techno
An occasional look at bits
of the technology that perhaps are less obvious, or some links that we think
might help you. Have a look here. Or if you have a link you
think might interest people, contact us here.

Norwich News
As a city Norwich is
changing rapidly. The latest major development has been the opening of
Chapelfield, a spacious, new shopping mall with many of the national shops. In
response to this the local, smaller traders with the City Council have started
"The Norwich
Lanes" as a
way of promoting the independent traders in Norwich. We are very pleased to say
the NILE is in one of the Lanes.
Norwich is now one of the top 10 retail
centres in the UK. |
