How much are the course fees?

What is included in the course fees?

The course fees include tuition, materials, free use of the computer centre and library, the standard social programme, and an end-of-course certificate. Course fees do not include examination fees, nor do they include transfers to and from airports


How many hours of tuition are offered, and what is the maximum class size?

All our open-enrolment short courses are taught 25 hours per week to take place between 9.15 and 17.15. The maximum class size is 16.


How do I enrol on a course?

You should complete an application form and return it to the Registrar. At the same time you should arrange for the payment of the non-refundable deposit of £100.00 (€120) and registration fee of £84.00 (€100) in order to secure your place on the course (fees for 2011 quoted). The balance of fees is due for payment no later than 4 weeks before the start of the course. If you are applying for a course within 4 weeks of the starting date, the full fees should be paid at the time of enrolment.

On receipt of your application form we will send you confirmation of your registration and you will receive your course papers and accommodation details soon after.


Does NILE offer language courses?

Not on an open enrolment basis. We are primarily a teacher training and education institute. However, our sister organisation INTO offers a range of courses for language learners at various universities in the UK. Go to our Language Learners page to find out more


Can I get Comenius funding for your postgraduate programme?

Yes, just apply in the usual way (see our funding page for funding information). You pay for each module as you take it.


Does NILE offer scholarships?

Yes, but we have to be very selective. Please see our funding page or contact the Registrar for more information.


How do I pay my fees?

Fees can be paid in (£) Pounds Sterling or (€) Euros

What is the cost of homestay accommodation and what is included in the cost?

In 2011, half-board homestay accommodation is available from £175.00 per week and includes bed, breakfast and evening meal. Homestay accommodation offers a single study-bedroom with a carefully chosen host. We aim to match the interests and needs of our students with the facilities offered by the host and we take into account any special requirements or dietary needs of individual students.

How do I get to NILE course centres?

Please go to our Contact Us page for a map of our location. Norwich is about a two-hours coach or train ride from London, Stansted being the closest London airport. Norwich International Airport has frequent flights to Amsterdam (Schipol), offering global flight connections.


Do I need insurance?

NILE cannot accept responsibility for the loss or theft of your money or valuables, so please ensure that you have adequate insurance.

If you are ill during the period of the course, you will be able to see your host family’s doctor or dentist, or the University doctor or dentist if you are staying in residential accommodation, and everything will be done to make sure that you are looked after. Please ensure that you have adequate insurance to cover your needs, particularly if you come from a non-EU country.

Before you arrive in Britain we strongly recommend that you arrange your own insurance to cover you and your belongings whilst you are visiting the UK.


What happens if I cancel my enrolment?

If you cancel your period of study more than 7 days before the start of the course, NILE will retain your non-refundable deposit as a cancellation fee.

If you cancel your period of study less than 7 days before the start of the course, NILE will retain your non-refundable deposit and you must also pay one week's accommodation charges.

You are strongly advised to insure against cancellation occurring either before or during the course (see information on Insurance).

Please note that the registration fee is non-refundable.


I am a visa national. Can I get my fees returned to me if I cannot get a visa?

Yes, if you are refused a visa, we will return any course fees you have paid us. In order to claim a refund, you must send us your refusal letter or a certified copy.


How can I receive mail or messages while I am in Norwich?

You can arrange for your post to be sent to you either c/o your host family or through the NILE office. The address is as follows:

Norwich Institute for Language Education, 82 Upper St. Giles Street, Norwich NR2 1LT, England. In order to make sure that mail does not get lost, please do not use any other address office. The office telephone number is +44 1603 664473, the fax number is: +44 1603 664493, and the e-mail address for messages is: registrar@nile-elt.com. Please mark any messages clearly with both first and family name of the student.

You can receive telephone messages in English through the NILE office between 0900 and 1700 GMT on weekdays, and you can also receive faxes and e-mail messages through the administration office.


How much money do I need to bring with me?

You will need to bring enough money with you to buy your lunch each day (and food or other meals if you are in residential accommodation). The course fees include the standard social programme, but you may wish to go on additional trips on your own, or go out on some evenings with other members of the group. You should bring enough money to cover this, as well as for any shopping you may wish to do.

Please note that NILE is not able to look after students’ personal money, or to cash travellers’ cheques but there are banks within 5 minutes’ walk of the course centre.
